Terpenes are a class of organic compounds found in many plants. The different features there are over a hundred different terpenes and they are often used by plants for defence mechanisms, by deterring herbivores, and attracting parasites and predators of herbivores.

Terpenes have been found to have some medicinal and therapeutic properties which, along with other plant compounds, are the reason plants have been used in traditional medicines for thousands of years. Collections of Terpenes in a plant may work together with other plant compounds, such as Flavonoids and Cannabinoids to produce a number of different effects.
